The education system in this country is in worse shape than the economy. Despite the introduction of the "No Child Left Behind" act, the reading and writing skills of America's youth remain abysmal. Most of them wouldn't know what abysmal means, let alone how it's spelled or pronounced.
The Democrats and those on the left have made a concerted effort to dumb down our educational system and it shows. It shows in the sheer stupidity of those who are pushed through the play dough factories that pass for today's schools. A professor at Valencia Community College in Orlando Florida recently told me they have to spend nearly two years teaching freshman what they should have known before they entered the University system. Pardon my paranoia, but I'm convinced this dumbing down of America is intentional. It is far easier to manipulate an uneducated society than an educated one. The rhetoric used by Obama and the Democrats during this years election had more in common with a "Dick and Jane" primer, than political discourse.
It's not going to get any better. The left in the Democratic party have been notoriously hostile to parochial, magnet, and home schools. Now that they control all three branches of Government, look for them to become more aggressive in their attempts to shut these down. They know that to achieve their goals they have to start from the bottom up. Based on "the man on the street" interviews conducted by Jay Leno and others, they've been succeeding. When a Harvard graduate with a masters in education thinks that the civil war was fought between the United States and England, there's a problem. While this might seem amusing to some, it isn't, its frightening. Society as whole is regressing, in most, but not all quarters. I guarantee that Obama and Biden's children are receiving the finest educations available.
The Democrats decry the disparity between the haves and the have nots, what they don't talk about, (and they and their supporters in the "National Education Association are the ones responsible), is that the real disparity lies between the knows and the know nots, the latter being responsible for the former. Reporting on President Elect Obama's first press conference, ABC news correspondent Anne Compton characterized his answers as, "short, and precise". Point made.
